Home Educators of Virginia Convention 2008

I’m at the Home Educators of Virginia Convention this weekend. It has been a great time and I’ve had the chance to hear some encouraging and convicting messages. Today’s keynote address was delivered by Gregg Harris and he gave some fantastic insights from scripture and his 25+ years of homeschooling. I’ll let Gregg describe himself in his own words: Gregg Harris is a follower of Jesus Christ who serves as a practical theologian, social philosopher and local church reformer/pastor. He attempts to walk in the giant footsteps of great men such as Martin Luther, John Calvin, Abraham Kuyper, Theodore Roosevelt, Francis Schaeffer, Dr. David Wells, Dr. Albert Mohler, Dr. Wayne Grudem and Dr. John Piper. He currently serves as a Teaching Elder of Household of Faith Community Church, in Gresham, OR (see www.hofcc.org) and as the Director of Noble Institute for Leadership Development, a not-for-profit educational organization (see www.nobleinstitute.org.) Gregg is internationally known as a pioneer advocate in the Christian home schooling movement, author a best selling book, The Christian Home School and developer of The Noble Planner Time Management System. He is the husband of Sono Sato Harris, and the father of seven children, among whom are, Joshua Harris, author of I Kissed Dating Goodbye, Joel Harris, Director of the Northwest Academy of Worship Music, Alex & Brett Harris, founders & co-hosts of TheRebelution.com web site, and three others still in their younger years.

Offensive Christians plans to interview Mr. Harris tomorrow and will publish an Internet radio show from that interview.

We were able to interview Dr. Jay Wile of Apologia Educational Ministries. He has PhD in Nuclear Chemistry and some very interesting thoughts about creationism and reasons to believe in a young earth. We will have a internet radio show up from his interview as well.

Thanks for checking in today. Expect more updates from the convention.

David

Why do I advocate Homeschooling?

The battle for humankind’s future must be waged and won in the public school classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as the proselytizers of a new faith: A religion of humanity — utilizing a classroom instead of a pulpit to carry humanist values into wherever they teach. The classroom must and will become an arena of conflict between the old and the new — the rotting corpse of Christianity, together with its adjacent evils and misery, and the new faith of humanism.”
- John J. Dunphy, The Humanist 1983
